10 Days Until July 4th

Can you feel the excitement? In just 10 days, EEDS will take to the streets and strut our new costumes and choreography to our samba-enredo at the Evanston 4th of July Parade!

Each day between now and the big performance, we will be revealing one aspect of the parade to whet your appetite for samba. Today, check out the graphic below for a teaser of what our layout will be on parade day. And if you have not RSVP’d on Facebook, get on it!

EEDS at 4th of July…with Porta Bandeira and Mestre Sala!

Porta Bandeira & Mestre Sala from Unidos do São Lucas Samba School in São Paulo, Brazil

We promised that we would update this site with some insider info about our 4th of July Parade, so we are happy to announce that for the first time our parade will include a Porta Bandeira and a Mestre Sala. These two roles are among the most coveted in Brazilian Carnaval parades. The female Porta Banderia (Flag Bearer) presents the school flag for the parade, while the male Mestre Sala (Master of the Room) dances alongside and draws attention to both the flag and the Porta Bandeira. As you can see, both wear very elaborate costumes! Check back on the blog to see artists sketches of our Porta Bandeira and Mestre Sala costumes.
